ABOUT THE UMPIRE JOURNAL

Finally, a journal just for baseball and softball umpires. With the UMPIRE JOURNAL, you can keep track of your games, sites, partners, travel, any issues that came up each game, you can track the good and bad parts of your game, and the things you need to improve on.

If you don’t separately track your games, you probably find the memories of your games all melt into each another.

 

What was that one incident I wanted to remember from last week? Did that interference happen last game, or two games ago? Or was it obstruction? I forget.

 

A journal helps you improve. If you track things that didn’t go well, you might find many of them have a common theme. For example, you might find that in 5 of 8 games you got yelled at for balls and strikes issues. But without tracking your games in a journal, you might not even be aware that you have an issue. Sure, you might remember you got yelled at, but now, looking back, it feels like it was only once or twice, so that’s not an issue, right? Without a journal, you’re relying on your memory, which is tough because all those games blur together.

 

By using a journal for all your games, you can recall problems, find the good things you’re doing, and prevent issues by learning from the past.

 

You can analyze the good and bad parts of your game, figure out what’s working

and what’s not working, and you can find solutions to your issues.

 

This journal can also help you keep track of your game finances – how much

you’re making and how much umpiring is costing you. Did you really spend

$400 last year just on game shirts?

 

Once you discover how much you’re actually spending on umpiring, you might

want to deal with your finances differently. Maybe.
